Textile major Bombay Dyeing said its upcoming real estate projects on mill land will not face any delay as they are designed keeping in mind the need to vacate a certain portion of the said land.
?The issue was never about handing over, but of when we are entitled to hand over as per the law. ?We have already considered the handing over in our planning and designing of both our properties and therefore does not affect or delay any of our commitments to our esteemed customers on our recently-launched residential towers and retail high street,? Bombay Dyeing Managing Director Jeh Wadia said in a statement here this evening.

The statement follows the Supreme Court ordering the company to hand over one-third of the mill land at Naigaum and Lower Parel to the Brihanmumbai Corporation (BMC) and Mhada, respectively, for development of open spaces, transit camp accommodation and houses for mill workers.
The apex court? had dismissed of a special leave petition by Bombay Dyeing against the HC order asking the the company to hand over the land to BMC and Mhada. Earlier in May, the high court had stayed the stop-work notice issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to Bombay Dyeing for redeveloping the mill land in central Mumbai.
The company had approached the HC after BMC issued a stop-work notice on March 26, 2010. The notice was issued following a direction from the monitoring committee that oversees redevelopment of mill lands in the metropolis.
The panel, headed by justice (Retd) B V Chavan, had directed the civic body to issue stop-work notice on the grounds that Bombay Dyeing had failed to hand over land to Mhada and BMC for low-cost housing and recreational grounds, respectively.
Bombay Dyeing?s projects coming up on its erstwhile mill plots are the Spring Mills in Dadar-Naigaon and another in Lower Parel. The plans for the mills include a 38-storey residential-cum-commercial and retail, IT spaces and a hotel.
